Dr. Shalun Matthews

Director, S.A.F.E. Centers

Dr. Shalun Matthews is from Riverdale, Ga and currently resides in McDonough, Ga. She completed her Bachelor’s in Political Science from Fort Valley State University, her Masters in Social Work from Kennesaw State University, her Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy Atlanta University, and is currently enrolled in the Tier I Educational Leadership certification program at the University of West Georgia (Graduating May 2024). Prior to becoming the Director of S.A.F.E. Centers & Community Engagement, Dr. Matthews was a School Social worker for 14 years in Clayton County Public Schools and Atlanta Public Schools. Most recently, she was a Coordinating Supervisor for Community Schools in Clayton County and supervising community hubs in the Love Joy area.

Her career goals include completing her Tier II Leadership certification and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is a certified Wrap Around service provider, Anger Management trainer, Restorative Practice specialist, and has a host of other certifications. She firmly believes that the purpose of Community Schools is to engage students, families, staff, faculty, and community stakeholders while providing whole child supports for a student to reach academic achievement. In her spare time she loves to spend time with her family (husband and 2 boys), reading, shopping, and traveling. Shalun is excited and looking forward to working with the Fulton County Schools family.
