Nancy Lahey

Nancy Lahey

Principal, Hembree Springs Elementary School

Nancy Lahey was born and raised in Lynbrook, New York, and completed her bachelor's degree in education from the State University of New York at Cortland in 1992. Having spent 31 years in Georgia, Nancy has truly made it her home. Ms. Lahey's teaching career began in Dekalb County schools, where she taught third and fourth grades from 1993 to 1998. During this time, she was recognized for her exceptional dedication and commitment to her students, earning the Teacher of the Year award at Knollwood Elementary School in 1998. Ms. Lahey received her master's degree in educational administration in 1997 from Georgia State University. Nancy decided to step away from teaching at the end of 1998 to focus on her three children, Zach, Cameron, and Samantha.

In 2007, Nancy felt the calling to return to the classroom and resumed her teaching career at Hembree Springs Elementary in Fulton County Schools. She quickly became an invaluable member of the school community, serving as both a teacher and a CST (Curriculum Support Teacher) until 2018. Her dedication and passion for education did not go unnoticed, as she was once again honored with the Teacher of the Year award, this time at Hembree Springs in 2012.

Seeking new challenges and opportunities for growth, Ms. Lahey transitioned to Elkins Pointe Middle School in 2018, where she served as an Assistant Principal. Her time in this role allowed her to gain valuable leadership experience and further develop her skills in guiding and supporting both students and teachers. Nancy continued to serve as an Assistant Principal at Woodland Elementary School from 2021-2023 and helped lead the school to obtain the PBIS recognition level of distinguished.

Nancy enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, crafting, watching Georgia football, and a newfound love of traveling. Nancy is excited to return to her roots and serve at Hembree Springs Elementary School once again. She firmly believes that the foundation of a child's education is built during these formative years, and she is determined to make a positive impact on the students, staff, and community at Hembree Springs Elementary. As she steps into her role as Principal, Nancy is confident that together they can achieve great things. Go Hawks!
