A “Royal” Experience at Liberty Point Elementary
One magical day in October, students at Liberty Point Elementary School played the role of princesses and princes. The young royals dressed in their finest frocks and walked through hallways decorated in a Mardi Gras theme. Conversations centered around one big moment – a visit from Anika Noni Rose. The Tony Award-winning and Grammy-nominated actress is best known for her role as Princess Tiana, from the Disney movie “The Princess and the Frog.” She was at Liberty Point to share her new book, “Tiana’s Perfect Plan.”

Hapeville Elementary Teacher Honored as ‘Extraordinary Educator’
Leaving the comforts of elementary school behind and entering the unknown of middle school can cause some apprehension in 5th graders, unless you are a student of teacher Thomas Bussey. His classes at Hapeville Elementary School are designed to instill student confidence and bring instruction to life.

Kind Campaign Inspires Students Across Fulton County Schools
Students from Alpharetta, Creek View, High Point, and New Prospect Elementary Schools recently took part in an inspiring initiative designed to tackle girl-against-girl bullying. The Kind Campaign’s founders brought the nationally renowned and impactful program to Fulton County Schools (FCS) to raise awareness of bullying among girls and foster a culture of empathy, healing, and kindness.

FCS Leads the State with 26 GADOE Literacy Leaders
The Georgia Department of Education announced the 2024 Literacy Leaders, and for the second year in a row, FCS leads the state. This recognition highlights 26 schools for their achievement or growth in the percentage of elementary and middle school students reading at or above grade level, as well as high school performance based on the American Literature End-of-Course (EOC) assessment.

FCS School Bus Driver Wins Georgia’s Bus Driver of the Year
The Georgia Department of Education (GA DOE) recognized Tabitha Stanley-Rollins, a “transportation superhero” and driver of special needs students, as the state’s 2024 Bus Driver of the Year for going above and beyond the call of duty. Rollins, who drives bus 1526, transports Wolf Creek Elementary and Westlake High School students. She has been a bus driver since 2007.

FCS Honored as Math Leaders
Thirty FCS schools have been recognized as Math Leader schools by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). This recognition places FCS among the top districts in Georgia for excellence in mathematics education, ranking third after Gwinnett and Cobb counties. The Math Leaders Award, introduced this year, highlights schools that have demonstrated outstanding achievement or significant growth in math, with a particular focus on numeracy skills in fifth and eighth grades.

2024-25 Community Meetings with Board Members
Each member of the Fulton County Board of Education sponsors a monthly meeting open to all community members. The sessions provide an opportunity for direct contact with community members and give Board members a chance to listen to local issues and concerns. Application Window Opening Dec. 9 for School Transfers
FCS is now using a new term for school choice: “Change of School Assignment (COSA).” Any student wishing to attend a school outside of their home attendance boundary will need to follow the new COSA process and timeline that runs Dec. 9, 2024 to Jan. 15, 2025. The process applies to all transfer-related programs, including previous options like hardship transfers, open enrollment, transfers for employees’ children, Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program transfers, and requests to schools offering International Baccalaureate or magnet programs.
