Miranda Freeman, originally from Terre Haute, Indiana, has an extensive background in education, including her role as principal of Sandtown Middle School in Fulton County, Georgia. With over 20 years of experience, she has taught in urban Title I schools from Pre-K through eighth grade. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Indiana State University, a master’s in Reading from the University of West Georgia, a Gifted Certification, and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University. Currently, she is pursuing her doctorate in school improvement at the University of West Georgia.

Ms. Freeman began her career as a fourth-grade teacher in Indianapolis before moving to Houston, Texas, where she taught fifth-grade Language Arts. In 2000, she relocated to Atlanta, teaching seventh grade for six years before returning to elementary school as a third-grade teacher and later a math coach. She earned a Math Endorsement certification through Griffin RESA and was promoted to assistant principal in Fulton County in 2010.

After serving as assistant principal for 7½ years, Ms. Freeman became principal of Cliftondale Elementary School in 2017. She significantly improved the school's rating from an F to a B within a year by focusing on academic and behavioral improvements. She led intervention teams, facilitated professional learning, and conducted data analysis to support instruction. Ms. Freeman received executive leadership training through the University of Virginia Turnaround Partnership. Following four successful years at Cliftondale, she became principal of Sandtown Middle School in June 2022.

Ms. Freeman's commitment to enhancing instruction has had a profound impact on student outcomes. Under her leadership, Sandtown Middle School has seen remarkable improvements. When she was appointed, the school had over 1,000 discipline incidents, a content mastery score of 49.1, and a readiness score of 76.1. By the end of her first year, discipline incidents dropped to 336, content mastery increased to 52.6, and readiness rose to 83.1. In 2024, the school achieved a content mastery score of 59.3, a readiness of 84.8, and a closing the gaps score of 100, resulting in an overall state score of 79.2. Ms. Freeman has collaborated with her team to implement systems and structures that align with MYP requirements for IB World Schools, putting Sandtown Middle School on track to become an IB candidate school.

Ms. Freeman is a devoted mother of one son and is continuously inspired to improve student outcomes as she supports her son’s education in Fulton County Schools. She is excited to join Westlake High School and is committed to strengthening academics, athletics, and the arts to ensure the school's continued growth and success.
