Dr. MaryKay Berry
Executive Director, Services for Exceptional Children
MaryKay Berry brings 27 years of experience in education to her role as Executive Director of Services for Exceptional Children at Fulton County Schools. Although originally from New York, her entire professional career has been in Georgia, where she has served students and families with dedication and heart. Her work is guided by a strong belief that every child deserves access to a high-quality education tailored to their individual needs.
Throughout her career, MaryKay has held a variety of roles, including general education teacher, special education teacher, Special Education Lead Teacher, Assistant Special Education Director, Student Services Director, and Interim Elementary Curriculum Director. She earned her Master’s degree in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD) and Autism from Piedmont College—where she later returned to teach—and completed her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. These experiences have shaped her deep understanding of both classroom and district-level needs.
In her current role, MaryKay plans to lead efforts to create inclusive, supportive learning environments for students with disabilities across Fulton County. She will work closely with educators, families, and community partners to ensure that every student receives the resources and support they need to succeed. Her approach is collaborative and compassionate, always putting students and families at the center of decision-making.
MaryKay also serves as the 2025/2026 President of the Georgia Council of Administrators of Special Education (GCASE), where she advocates for strong policies and practices that benefit students with disabilities statewide. Known for her warmth, authenticity, and unwavering commitment, she is a trusted leader who continues to inspire others through her dedication to equity, inclusion, and student success.
