Ridgeview Charter Middle School Continues to be a State and National School to Watch

Ridgeview Charter Middle School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and has once again been re-designated as a Georgia Lighthouse and National Forum Schools to Watch (STW) honoree for 2026–2029. This exciting recognition marks Ridgeview’s second re-designation and continues a tradition of excellence the school has proudly upheld since 2019.

The National Forum STW program, along with its state partner Georgia Lighthouse, highlights outstanding middle schools across the nation that are committed to excellence in four key areas: academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and strong organizational structures and processes. Being recognized through this program places Ridgeview among an elite group of schools, making a lasting difference for young adolescents.

Ridgeview is one of just 16 schools in Georgia to receive this distinction. It is an achievement that reflects the dedication of its students, staff, families, and community. Schools recognized through the Georgia Lighthouse STW program are known for strong leadership, challenging curriculum, rising achievement, engaged students, and meaningful community involvement.

Ridgeview’s intentional focus on maintaining its strengths and identifying areas for improvement has elevated the school’s rating from a “C” in 2019 to a “B” today.

Middle Years Program (MYP) IB Coordinator Kathleen McCaffrey was instrumental in Ridgeview's application submission, saying, “The process is rigorous, and follow-up questions from the designating committee are focused on moving students forward.”

In their re-designation letter, Georgia Lighthouse Co-Chairs Linda Hopping and Camille McElroy praised Principal Thomas Garrett and the Ridgeview team for their continued commitment to the STW vision. They also recognized Garrett’s enthusiastic leadership and his willingness to host visitors, respond to inquiries, and share Ridgeview’s success at conferences.

“At Ridgeview, we strive every day to be worthy of this prestigious recognition,” said Garrett. “Our focus remains steadfast on meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of every student, ensuring they have a supportive environment to thrive as compassionate global citizens and to celebrate their successes.”

Principal Garrett will receive Ridgeview’s award at the annual National Forum Schools to Watch conference in Washington, D.C., June 25-27, 2026.
