Westlake High School Partners with Music Education Group to Enhance Music Program
Exciting things are happening in Fulton County Schools. Westlake High School has entered a transformative partnership with the Music Education Group, Inc. (MEG), an organization focused on empowering young minds through hands-on experiences in music, film, and digital media. This collaboration aims to modernize Westlake’s music program by providing students access to cutting-edge tools, professional expertise, and professional-grade software while fostering creative expression.
According to the school’s Director of Bands, Cedric Young, the partnership is a significant opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in music production and technology under the guidance of industry professionals.
"The Atlanta area’s entertainment industry is booming, and this partnership is a win-win for our community and students," said Young.
Ric Ross, founder and CEO of the Music Education Group (MEG), first visited Westlake High School before the pandemic, expressing interest in establishing a music education program.
“The partnership has come to fruition with dedicated space, state-of-the-art equipment, and enthusiastic support,” said Ross.
“I am delighted to work with the Music Education Group and see the opportunity their partnership will bring to our students,” added Westlake High School Principal Jarvis Adams. “The Westlake community is excited about having Ric Ross work with our teachers and students. This will take us to a new level.”
In September, MEG hosted a two-day workshop for students at the Buckhead Theatre and the United Talent Agency’s office in collaboration with the Save the Music Foundation. During the event, students engaged with industry professionals including songwriters, record company executives, and publishers. Remarkably, after just two days, several students from these workshops have gone on to launch careers in the entertainment industry.
Young envisions expanding the program with a music club and cross-department collaborations with English, business, art, and graphic design to teach students valuable life lessons and promote interdisciplinary collaboration in music.
The partnership, made possible by funding from the Georgia Foundation for Public Education, highlights Westlake High School’s commitment to preparing students for success in Atlanta’s thriving entertainment industry and beyond. With MEG’s support, the future of music education at Westlake looks brighter than ever.
The Music Education Group continues to invest in FCS students, recently adding partnerships with Creekside High, Langston Hughes High and Sandtown Middle Schools, along with support from the Save the Music Foundation.
