SAT Scores Continue to Outperform State/National Averages for Eighth Consecutive Year
Fulton County Schools (FCS) students once again surpassed both state and national averages on the SAT, marking the eighth consecutive year of this achievement. For the class of 2024, FCS students recorded a mean total score of 1063, outpacing the Georgia average by 33 points and the national average by 68 points. Despite a slight decrease in the overall score compared to last year (22 points), SAT participation increased by 7.5%, with 4,826 students taking the test—an increase from 4,487 in 2023.

“We beat the state and national averages again,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “Year after year, our students show their academic strength, consistently performing above their peers. This ongoing achievement is a testament to the hard work of our students, educators, and the entire community.”
FCS also boasted remarkable individual school performance, with five high schools improving their total SAT scores compared to last year:

“We're thrilled to see five of our schools improve their SAT scores this year. It's proof that our district is moving in the right direction and that our students are making great strides," said FCS Board President Kimberly Dove. "We’re seeing real progress, and that’s something to be proud of.”
In addition, FCS has the distinction of having four schools ranked among the top ten in the state for total mean SAT scores—more than any other school district in Georgia:
School | District | Total Score |
Gwinnett School of Math Science & Technology | Gwinnett | 1370 |
Innovation Academy | Fulton | 1286 |

“We have four of the top ten schools in the state for SAT performance, more than any other district,” Dr. Looney added. “That’s something to celebrate. We continue to lead by providing our students with every opportunity to excel.”
Perhaps most notably, FCS participation in the SAT has grown for the third time since 2019. “Our participation numbers are up again this year,” said Dr. Looney. “This increase shows that more and more of our students are seeing the value of college readiness and assessments like the SAT, and we will continue to provide the support they need to succeed.”
