Record-breaking Achievements in 2024 AP Exams
Exemplifying Fulton County Schools’ (FCS) strong emphasis on high academic achievement, 2024 marked another banner year for students taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses. With more than ten thousand students participating in the AP program across 39 different subjects, preliminary results of the 2024 AP exams highlight the exceptional achievements of FCS students. The district’s record-breaking year continues a post-COVID trend of increasing AP exam participation and performance.
"Our students have shown remarkable resilience and commitment to their education, and their performance on the AP exams is a testament to that,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney, who commended the district's students, educators, and staff for their hard work and dedication. “The increase in both participation and passing rates reflects the strong support from our teachers and staff, who go above and beyond to prepare our students for success. I am incredibly proud of our entire FCS community."
Among key highlights of the preliminary findings, the district increased participation in the number of students taking AP exams, achieving a record-high pass rate of 72.9% across all exams taken this spring. Those rising pass rates exceeded the national average in 31 of the 39 courses offered, including all four mathematics courses.
Seventeen of the district's eighteen high schools increased the number of AP exams administered in 2024. Fourteen schools improved their pass rates, with Riverwood High School standing out for its 16.6% increase in pass rates and 252 additional exams administered. The most popular exams in 2024 were Precalculus, English Language and Composition, and World History: Modern.
The final AP exam results for 2024 will be available by August 15.
