FCS Students' ACT Participation and Scores Surpass State/Nation
Fulton County Schools Students Lead State with Highest ACT Participation, Surpassing State and National Composite Scores for Eighth Consecutive Year
Fulton County Schools (FCS) 2024 graduating seniors not only achieved the highest ACT test participation rate in Georgia but also outperformed their state and national peers in composite scores for the eighth consecutive year. The percentage of ACT-tested graduates rose from 47.8% in 2023 to 54.8% in 2024, marking a seven-point increase. Despite the growth in participation, the class of 2024 maintained a strong average ACT composite score of 21.9, compared to Georgia’s average of 21.2 and the national average of 19.4.
“We are proud of our students for their consistently high performance, even as participation numbers increase,” said Kimberly Dove, president of the Fulton County Board of Education. “The Board remains committed to funding and ensuring this test is accessible to all students across our district.”
While the overall district’s composite score decreased, Fulton County’s class of 2024 exceeded state and national averages meeting all four of ACT’s College Readiness benchmarks, both collectively and individually. Additionally, FCS students outperformed their state and national counterparts in each subject area.
Nine Fulton County high schools scored above the state (21.2) and national (19.4) composite scores: Alpharetta, Cambridge, Chattahoochee, Innovation Academy, Johns Creek, Milton, Northview, Riverwood, and Roswell. Innovation Academy led the district with an impressive average composite score of 27.1, surpassing the national average by 7.7 points and the state average by 5.9 points.
“We’re thrilled that Fulton County is leading the state trend of increasing ACT participation,” said FCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “I am incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and their eagerness to engage with various college readiness opportunities.”
