Monica Bhatnagar Named FCS School Professional of the Year for 2025-26

L-R: Zone 6 Superintendent Brian Downey; FCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney; Chief Academic Officer Brannon Gaskins; FCS Board President Kristin McCabe; Chief Operations Officer Noel Maloof; FCS School Professional of the Year Monica Bhatnagar; Operations Coordinator Bashiru Kamara; RTMS Principal Neil Pinnock; FCS Board Member Dr. Michelle Morancie; and Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Gonzalo La Cava.

Shabnam “Monica” Bhatnagar, data clerk at River Trail Middle School (RTMS), is the 2025-2026 School Professional of the Year (SPOTY) for Fulton County Schools. She has served FCS as a staff member for eight years and as a substitute teacher for ten.

One of Monica Bhatnagar’s greatest strengths is being a “people person.” When organizing various events at school that may fall on an unscheduled workday for some employees, staff expressed feeling left out. Monica made it imperative to box up goodies for staff unable to attend and secure them for their return, so they could feel included in the celebration. The gesture and sign of respect was greatly appreciated by River Trail employees.

Monica has collaborated with feeder school clerks and assistant principals on student scheduling to ensure a smooth transition for families from elementary schools. She now manages the front office and the school calendar. She started a social committee with teachers to deliver treats and maintain morale and has instituted an annual Diwali festival lunch for staff.

She also volunteers her time outside of school delivering goods to first responders and donating crafts to community charities.

Principal Neil M. Pinnock said, “One of Ms. Bhatnagar’s most impactful initiatives was the creation of a comprehensive grading scenario document for teachers. This resource outlined various grading scenarios, provided descriptions, specified the appropriate grade assignments, and included lists of students affected by each situation. This was the first time such a resource had been developed at RTMS. Teachers were immensely grateful, as it simplified their grading process and ensured accuracy in student assessments.”

Monica Bhatnagar is an exemplary professional who embodies dedication, initiative, and care in all she does. Her contributions extend beyond her job description and make her an excellent choice for School Professional of the Year!
