FCS sees gains and areas needing improvement on GaDOE support lists
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) released the annual categories of needs improvement lists, and Fulton County Schools (FCS) showed both gains and areas in need of improvement. Four schools (Hamilton E. Holmes and Love T. Nolan elementary schools, Bear Creek Middle School and Tri-Cities High School) were removed from targeted assistance lists due to outstanding efforts by staff and students; while additional schools were added or remained. FCS will utilize the data to provide focused support to help improve student achievement.
“The state list of schools needing improvement helps inform our decisions about deploying resources,” said FCS Board President Kimberly Dove. “We have shown that with the right interventions and support, we can have a positive impact on student achievement.”
The categories include the Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI), Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI), and Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) federal school identification lists based on school year (SY) 2023.
Schools on the CSI list are College Park and Conley Hills elementary schools; and Fulton Academy of Virtual Excellence (FAVE), Independence and Skyview high schools (for graduation rates).
“This year FCS reached an historically high overall graduation rate; however, the CSI and TSI lists indicate we have subgroups that need additional focus,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “We are dedicated to each student and to helping them find a path to graduation, and we will engage with additional efforts to support them.”
Schools added to the ATSI list are Banneker High School and Brookview and Seaborn Lee elementary schools for the subgroup of students with disabilities.
Full analysis of the results and a complete list of schools changes are included in the attached Executive Summary.
