FCS Hosts Districtwide Family Engagement Event

FCS Hosts Districtwide Family Engagement Event

In honor of National Family Engagement Month, Fulton County Schools (FCS) will host two exciting districtwide Family Engagement events to spotlight family engagement and how it directly correlates with student academic and extracurricular achievement. The events will provide an outlet for families to scholastically engage with students outside of homework with community wrap-around activities in a fun, educational way.

The events, called “Family Matters,” will occur at two host schools – Heards Ferry Elementary School in the north part of the district, and Feldwood Elementary School in the south. Activities include family fun and learning, giveaways, a cooking adventure, planetary star lab activation, Chinese brush painting, vision board workshop, Microsoft language translation workshop, HBCU dance bootcamp, battle of the drones, and much more!

“Family Matters is a hands-on, interactive event with fun learning activities for both students and families,” said Family Engagement Specialist Lisa Humphrey. “One of the activities, ‘It’s in the Bag,’ will feature a culinary arts demonstration. Parents will leave with a bag of ingredients they can use at home. At each location, Heards Ferry Elementary on November 15 and Feldwood Elementary November 29, there will be over 12 sessions for families to choose from, as well as musical performances by students.”

Multiple community vendors along with FCS departments will be on hand to showcase their various areas of expertise and share information with parents, including Lakeshore Learning, multiple municipal police departments, the art department, music department, world language department, special education, athletics, JROTC, and the Fulton County Police Department.

There will also be opportunities for prizes and food along with resources for each family to take home. The event is free for FCS families and students at all grade levels (K-12). However, space is limited, and participants are encouraged to register on the Family Matters website.
