Superintendent’s Report
Dr. Mike Looney began his report by thanking the Board for their insight as the district continues to work through the budgeting process in preparation for the millage hearings, the first of which was scheduled directly after the Board meeting adjourned. He noted the Board has been engaged in the budgeting process throughout the year and he is confident the district will move forward in a positive way that represents taxpayers well. Regarding the millage rate, Dr. Looney said when going through the budgeting process the district had set a tentative millage rate using the current millage rate of 17.24.
However, now that the tax digest has been confirmed by the Fulton County Tax Commissioner and recognizing assessment values have increased, he has worked with Chief Financial Officer Marvin Dereef to amend his recommendation and now proposes to reduce the millage rate from 17.24 to 17.14. The final two millage hearings are scheduled for August 10 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the North Learning Center with a vote expected following the second hearing.
